Munnar

Munnar the popular hill station is in an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Kerala. The name Munnar is originated from the meeting of three beautiful rivers Nallathanni, Kundala and Mudrapuzha. The Munnar was the summer retreat of the British rulers. Anamudi (over 2695 Mts), the highest peak in South India is in Munnar.

Tourist Attractions

Tata Tea Museum: 2 Km from Munnar give a complete knowledge about tea manufacturing such as processing and testing tea as well as machineries etc. Visiting hours: 10.00 AM - 4.00 PM except Monday.

Mattupetty: famous for the Indo-Swiss dairy farm project is 13 km from Munnar. Kundala tea plantations, the Kundala Lake and Mattupetty dam are the other attractions. Boating facilities are available in the Mattupetty Dam.

Pothamedu 6 km from Munnar offers a fantastic view of tea, coffee and cardamom plantations. This area is suitable for trekking.

Devikulam is another beautiful picnic spot (7 km from Munnar). The Sita Devi Lake at Devikulam is ideal for trout fishing.

Pallivasal The first Hydro Electric Project in Kerala is 8 km from Munnar.

Chithirapuram the home of the Pallivasal Hydel Power Project, also famous for its fascinating tea gardens is 10 km from Munnar.

Attukal
The beautiful Attukal water fall is in between Munnar and Pallivasal (9 KM).

Nyayamakad
Nyayamkad waterfalls, a height of 1600 meters is to be found between Munnar (10 km) and Rajamala.

Lock Heart Gap is an ideal place for adventure tourism (13 km from Munnar). Rajamala & Eravikulam National Park: the natural habitat of the Niligiri tahr (rare mountain goats) is 15 km from Munnar (The Eravikulam National Park is usually closed to visitors at the time of calving of Nilgiri Tahr which is usually during the months of February – March.).

Top Station gives a fantastic outlook of the plains of Tamilnadu (40 Km from Munnar).

Marayoor: famous for Sandalwood forest. ( 40 Km from Munnar) Chinnar Wild Sanctuary One can observe elephants, deer's, samba etc from the watch tower.
