Thekkaddy

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary extend across 777 sq. km is enclosed by the artificial lake formed by Mullaperiyar Dam at Thekkady in Idukki Dt., Kerala is a Tiger Reserve since 1978. Thekkaddy is famous for Trekking, elephant ride and boating

Wild animals such as Tigers, elephants Nilgiri langur. , bison, bear, boar, leopards and birds like herons, darters, kingfishers, egrets and Malabar grey hornbill can be seen here.

Kumily a famous shopping and spice trade is 4 km from the wild life sanctuary. Murikkaddy is famous for cardom, coffee and pepper plantations (5 km). Pandikuzhi, near Tamilnadu border is a picnic as well as trekking spot (5 km) The Mangala Devi Temple is 15 km away from Thekkaddy. The famous Sree Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala and the Makara Joythi are visible from Pullumedu (43 km). Edappalayam, Manakkavala and Thannikudi have watch towers to observe wild animals.
